The coastal city of Newport is the seat of Lincoln County, Oregon. Incorporated in 1882, the community's first post office was established in 1868. Yaquina Bay was opened to settlement in 1864, Newport was founded in 1864, and soon became a travel destination, although its first road was not built until 1927. Newport is home to Nye Beach, Oregon Coast Community College, the Oregon Coast Aquarium, Rogue Ales, and the Yaquina Head Lighthouse.
