Situated on the eastern side of Oregon's Cascade Mountain Range, Redmond is the seat of Deschutes County. Named for Frank T. Redmond, an early homesteader, the city was platted by an irrigation company building a major canal project, and incorporated in 1910. As the city is in the geographical center of Central Oregon, it is sometimes referred to as the Heart of Central Oregon.
