The borough of Akron, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, was incorporated in 1895, even though the first home was built there in 1724. Known for the cigars made there, there were more than 50 cigar factories located in Akron. Though they were not factories in the traditional sense, most of them were in peoples' homes, but they employed many people and brought in much income in their day.
