Located in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, the borough of Ambridge, was first called Economy, and was settled by the Harmony Society in the early 1800s after their escape from religious persecution in Germany. By the turn of the century, there were only a few Harmonists remaining. The Society was soon after dissolved, and its property sold, mostly to the American Bridge Company, who renamed the town and incorporated it in 1905.
