Bradford, Pennsylvania is part of McKean County just south of Buffalo, New York. The oil boomtown was settled in 1823 and incorporated in 1879. It is probably best-known as the place where a famous "perpetual motion machine" hoax was created in 1897. That hoax was featured in the July 1899 issue of Scientific American.
