Pennsylvania's city of Erie, on the banks of Lake Erie, is the county seat of Erie County. Established near the site of Fort Presque Isle, it is now located in an area of land which was claimed by New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Connecticut in the 18th century.
