Originally called Hickory, Hermitage is a city located in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. It was settled in 1796 and incorporated as the Township of Hickory in 1833. In 1975, a vote was taken to settle on a new name. The choices on the ballot were Hermitage, Mount Hickory, and Hickory Hills. The current name of Hermitage won 2,986 to 695.
