The borough of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania is in both Cumberland and Franklin Counties. Settled in 1730 and incorporated as a borough in 1819, it is namned for Edward Shippen, whose daughter was the wife of Benedict Arnold. One of its most notable natives was General Samuel D. Sturgis, of the Union army, for whom Sturgis, South Dakota was named.
