The city of Washington is the seat of Washington County, in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It was settled in 1768 by immigrants from Scotland and Ireland as well as local immigrants from other parts of Virginia. It is named after the county which is named in honor of President George Washington. The town was center stage for the Whiskey Rebellion in 1791.
