Established in 1694, and incorporated in 1746, Tiverton is in Newport County, Rhode Island. Located on the eastern shore of Narragansett Bay, across the Sakonnet River from Aquidneck Island, the area is disconnected from the rest of the state, except for Little Compton, which is adjacent to Tiverton.
