Andrews began as two communities, the towns of Rosemary and Harpers Crossroads, which were settled along the Georgetown and Western Railroad around 1886. In the early 1900s, Walter H. Andrews convinced the Seaboard Air Line Railroad to bring its route through the towns, and to locate a large maintenance shop there. Now connected by rail, the two small towns combined and took the name of Walter Andrews, which was later shortened to Andrews, South Carolina.
