Located in the northeast corner of Spartanburg County, Chesnee, South Carolina was settled in the early 1900s after a railroad line was run through the area, and chartered in 1911. The town was named for the great grandmother of John Cleveland, a land speculator who had bought up land in the area prior to the coming of the railroad.
