Daufuskie Island is a sea island on the southern tip of Beaufort County, South Carolina. Its history goes back before the Revolutionary War, where it was the site of a skirmish known as the Daufuskie Fight during the Yamasee War of 1715-1717, and was home to a population of Gullah inhabitants from the end of the Civil War until recently. Gullah are the descendants of freed slaves. No bridges connect the island with the mainland, so access is by boat.
