Situated along the banks of Jeremy Creek in Charleston County, South Carolina, McClellanville began as a village, after the Civil War, in the late 1860s, when local plantation owners A.J. McClellan and R.T. Morrison sold lots in the area of the creek to planters of the Santee Delta. The town was incorporated in 1926, and was badly damaged by Hurricane Hugo in 1989, although no lives were lost.
