Located just south of Lake Moultrie, Moncks Corner is the seat of Berkeley County, South Carolina. The settlement was established in the early 1700s as a trading post named for its principle landowner, Thomas Monck. After the Northeastern Railroad laid its tracks through the area in the late 1800s, the train depot became the center of the town, which was chartered in 1885.
