Olanta is a small town in the southwestern corner of Florence County, South Carolina. Although the town was not chartered until 1908, people began moving into the area prior to 1800, at which time the largest landowner was Robert Fullwood, who owned approximately 14,000 acres. Prior to 1860, the local population was based in an area historically known as Mott's Crossroads, about three miles north of Olanta.
