Seabrook Island is an island located just south of Johns Island and Rockville, South Carolina, and across the river to the east of Edisto Island. The British arrived on the island as early as 1666, and soon afterwards it was sold to English settlers. During the Revolutionary War, the island was used as a staging area for British and Hessian troops, and in 1816, it was sold to William Seabrook of nearby Edisto Island, from whom it gets its current name. The town was incorporated in 1987.
