Named for the city by that name in Pennsylvania, Gettysburg is the seat of Potter County, South Dakota. Incorporated in 1907, Gettysburg was the eastern terminus of the short-lived Forest City and Gettysburg Railroad. Forest City was submerged when the Oahe Dam was constructed.
