Harrisburg is a city in Lincoln County, South Dakota. Before the railroad came through the area, mail was carried by stagecoach to the Harris Homestead, and the post office was called Harrisburg. When the railroad was built from Sioux City, Iowa to Sioux Falls in 1878, the post office moved one mile south. In 1890, the railroad depot was moved to the current site of Harrisburg and the post office was again named Harrisburg, and the town of Harrisburg began.
