Marion is a city in Turner County, South Dakota. The settlement was laid out in 1879 by Jon D. Lawler, and named Turner Junction. In 1881, it was incorporated and renamed Marion Junction for Marion Merrill, the daughter of S.S. Merrill, a railroad official. Its named was shortened to Marion in 1938.
