The Tennessee city of Clinton is the seat of Anderson County. It was settled in 1801 and called Burrville, in honor of Thomas Jefferson's vice president, Aaron Burr. It was renamed in 1809 due to the disgrace Burr brought upon himself by killing Alexander Hamilton in a duel. It is not clear whether the new name was chosen in honor of George Clinton or his nephew, DeWitt Clinton.
