The county seat of Dyer County, Tennessee, is the city of Dyersburg. Originally land which belonged to the Chickasaw tribe, the land was relinquished, along with all of the land in West Tennessee, by a treaty in 1818. It was named in honor of one of the men who donated 60 acres, which was to become the city, to the county, Joel H. Dyer.
