Grand Prairie, Texas, is situated in Tarrant, Dallas, and Ellis Counties. It was settled in 1863 and got its first post office in 1877, while it was called Deckman and had a name change when, tradition has it, a famous actress stepped off the train there and exclaimed, "My, what a grand prairie!"
