The Texas city of New Braunfels has always had a large German population and is named for the German city of Braunfels. Wurstfest, a German sausage festival draws a lot of people into the city each November. The location for New Braunfels was unintentional. Land further north and west was set aside for the new settlement, but a way station was needed to rest and resupply, and New Braunfels grew up around the way station.
