Salina, Utah, situated in Sevier County, was settled in 1864 when approximately thirty families moved to the area at the direction of the Mormon church. They named the area Salina due to the salt deposits which were in abundance there. In 1866, the settlers fled the area due to the Black Hawk War, but the returned in 1871 and organized a militia and fort. In 1891, it was incorporated as a town, and in 1913, it became a city.
