The town of Chincoteague, Virginia is situated on Chincoteague Island in Accomack County. The town is the result of the first land grant issued on the island, in 1650. The town and island are famous for the feral ponies which live there and the Ash Wednesday Storm of 1962, the nor'easter which left the entire town underwater.
