Vancouver, Washington is the county seat of Clark County, and should not be confused with Vancouver, British Columbia, which is 300 miles north. It was named in honor of Royal Navy Captain George Vancouver, who was a noted explorer in the late 18th century. It is nicknamed "America's Vancouver," and was named and settled more than 30 years before the city in B.C.
