Tucked away in Raleigh County, West Virginia, the community of Beaver was named in approximately 1860, due to the large numbers of beaver in the vicinity. Even so, it was named Oxley in honor of the owner of a nearby clothing store in 1929. That name was changed to Glen Hedrick, after the new owner of the nearly lumber company, Grover Hedrick. It was finally officially named Beaver in 1939.
