Wrestling is a combat sport that involves grappling, usually between two competitors who are trying to achieve and maintain a superior position. In one form or another, wrestling has its roots in nearly every culture, including ancient Greece long before the first Olympic Games in 776 B.C. In fact, cave paintings dating back to the Neolithic Age of 7000 B.C. depict men grappling, and surrounded by crowds. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh established credibility as a leader after wrestling Enkidu, and Greek mythology holds that Zeus became ruler of the earth after besting his father in a wrestling match. Early wrestling differed considerably from that which is seen today, largely because it had very few rules. Today, there are several styles of wrestling, with varying rules.
