{"id":261,"date":"2006-12-28T13:10:50","date_gmt":"2006-12-28T18:10:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.avivadirectory.com\/trivia\/261-dandelion-capital-of-the-world"},"modified":"2013-01-19T16:46:15","modified_gmt":"2013-01-19T21:46:15","slug":"dandelion-capital-of-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.avivadirectory.com\/trivia\/261-dandelion-capital-of-the-world\/","title":{"rendered":"Dandelion Capital of the World"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" align=\"right\" width=\"240\" src=\"http:\/\/www.avivadirectory.com\/trivia\/dandelion.jpg\" alt=\"Dandelion\" height=\"160\" style=\"width: 240px; height: 160px\" title=\"Dandelion\" \/>Towns across the United States are well known for one thing or another.\u00a0 Some of these things should be shouted aloud and others should simply be kept quiet.\u00a0 Either way, the choice is yours to make whether you consider the claim to fame that these cities spout so proudly to be virtuous of the title.<\/p>\n<p>Vineland, New Jersey, has the distinction of being named the &#8220;Dandelion Capital of the World.&#8221;\u00a0 In fact, the first National Dandelion Festival was held in Vineland in 1973.\u00a0 In subsequent years, Vineland&#8217;s Mayor Patrick Fiorelli proudly proclaimed Vineland to be the &#8220;Dandelion Capital of the World.&#8221;\u00a0 Publicity was widespread and immediate, causing quite a sensation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It is located in Cumberland County and is approximately 53 miles away from the state capital, Trenton.\u00a0 To this day, the Annual Dandelion Dinner Festival is held in Vineland, New Jersey.\u00a0 Patrons of this event can enjoy a variety of dishes prepared with dandelions, including dandelion salad, which is one of the most popular and most commonly found dandelion dish throughout the world.\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nDandelions are actually classified as a common weed, albeit a tasty weed.\u00a0 Dandelions, hearty plants, grow wildly in open fields.\u00a0 In New Jersey, the dandelion begins sprouting in March and April and continues throughout the summer.\u00a0 This well-known perennial is a valuable crop for New Jersey farmers, bringing in three to four hundred thousand dollars every year.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the fact that the dandelion is a common weed, in Vineland, it is treated like any other valuable crop.\u00a0 It is nourished with the best of fertilizers and protected with the proper herbicides.\u00a0 In fact, its worst adversary, the one that is most likely to take over its territory, is grass.<\/p>\n<p>Dandelions are more popular within certain ethnic groups including Italian, Greek, French, and other groups from the European continent.\u00a0 In fact, the dandelion originated in Europe as well as Asia.\u00a0 Its vibrant green leaves provide a healthy substitute for other nutritional vegetables.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Vineland is also the birthplace of Welch&#8217;s grape juice, which was discovered in 1869 by Dr. T.B.
