Glen Burnie is a census-designated place, and a suburb of Baltimore, located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The community has its roots in 1812, when Elas Glenn established a county seat near what is now Brooklyn Park in Baltimore City, naming his property "Glennsburne" which was eventually changed to "Glenburnie", and then to Glen Burnie, when the postmaster decided, in 1930, that two words were better than one.
