The small city of Berger is situated on the Berger Bottom, a floodplain south of the Missouri River in Franklin County, Missouri. The community was first settled in 1818, and laid out in 1870, and named either for Joseph Berger, a local hunter, or Pierre Berger, an area merchant who died in 1787. Initially, the town was known as Berger Station as it was located on the railroad line. Berger is southeast of Hermann and northwest of Etlah and New Haven.
