The seat of Montgomery County, Missouri, Montgomery City was a depot on the Wabash Railroad. One famous Montgomery City resident was Thomas Jefferson Jackson, an astronomer who fell out with his colleagues and was banned from publishing, spending the remainder of his life arguing against Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. Another was Ray Moore, the creator of the comic strip, The Phantom. Montgomery City is south of Wellsville, southwest of Buell and Gamma, west of Bellflower and Prices Branch, north of New Florence and Danville, northeast of Williamsburg, and east of Shamrock. Missouri Highway 19 runs north from Interstate Highway 70 through the town and on to Wellsville and Martinsburg.
