Trimble is in southwestern Clinton County, Missouri. The community was formed from lands deeded to William Carpenter by President John Tyler in 1843. Carpenter’s sons, Amos and Dan Carpenter, platted the land that they had inherited from their father for a town that was to be named Carpenter’s Store, for a business that they were already operating. In 1898, a lawyer by the name of Mr. Trimble encouraged the citizens of Carpenter’s Store to have their town incorporated, after which it was renamed in his honor. US Highway 169 and Missouri Highway F pass through the city, as does Missouri Rouates 301, 302 and 308. Trimble is situated on the west banks of the Smithville Reservoir, southeast of Edgerton, east of Edgerton Junction, and northeast of Ridgely. Grayson is to the north, Smithville to the south, and Mecca is to the northeast. Kansas City is twenty-six miles to the south, and St. Joseph is thirty-one miles to the northwest.
