Melissa Etheridge was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on May 29, 1961. She was discovered at a bar in Pasadena, California and was a huge success underground before making it in the mainstream. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 and is in remission. She is a lesbian and has been in several committed relationships, and she supported Barack Obama’s choice of people to speak at his first inauguration, Rick Warren, who Melissa believes may be able to “bridge the gap” between Christians who differ on the topic of same sex marriage. She was married to actress and producer Linda Wallem in May 2014 in Montecito, California. has four children.
