Loretta Webb, better known as Loretta Lynn, was born on Butcher Hollow, Kentucky on April 14, 1932. Her father was a coal miner, and at the age of 15, she married Oliver Lynn, and they moved to Washington. She had three children before she was 19, and three more in all. She and Oliver remained married for nearly half a century until his death from diabetes in 1996. In fact, his constant cheating on her was, she reports, the impetus for much of her music.
