Cairo is the capital and the largest city in Egypt, and Greater Cairo is the 15th-largest metropolitan region in the world. Egypt has an active tourism industry, and much of it is based in Cairo, given the nearby pyramids, monuments, and museums.

There are also the city's historic regions, including Coptic Cairo, Old Cairo, and Islamic Cairo, as well as several other historic architectures, such as the Citadel of Cairo, built in 1176 AD, and the Khan El-Khalili Mosque, which dates back to 1385.

Cairo is also home to opera houses, and its film and music industries are among the oldest and largest in Africa and the Middle East. Additionally, Egypt maintains close international relations with several countries so Cairo, as its capital, receives a lot of international visitors.

Although Cairo doesn't have much, if anything in the way of bed and breakfasts, timeshares, or vacation rentals, the city hosts several hotels, of various sizes and repute. Hotels and other guest lodging facilities in Cairo are appropriate topics for this category.
