Places to go and things to do in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, Scotland is the focus of topics in this portion of our web guide.

As Scotland's first "new town" under the New Towns Act of 1946, East Kilbride grew from a small village to a large town since the end of World War II. The town ends near the White Cart Water to the west and is bounded by the Rotten Calder Water to the east. Immediately north of the modern town centre is The Village, the part of East Kilbride that existed before its post-war development.

Other than the old Village area, East Kilbride lacks the rich historical and architectural wonders that are found in some of Scotland's larger and much older cities, given that most of the town is seventy-five years old or younger. Nevertheless, museums and historical places in East Kilbride are among the topics that are appropriate for this category. The National Museum of Rural Life is nearby, between East Kilbride and South Lanarkshire.

Nevertheless, the town has a population of about 75,000 people, so there are things to do and see in East Kilbride.

As a planned community, East Kilbride was designed to provide elements of culture, sports, and entertainment for residents. A key facility is the Dolian Aqua Centre, which was opened in 1968 as Scotland's first 50-metre swimming pool. Refurbished in 2008, the facility includes a swimming pool with a moveable floor, a health suite, two fitness gyms, and a cafe.

Other topics that would be appropriate for this category include East Kilbride entertainment venues and sports and recreational facilities and programs, including parks, hiking trails, and sports teams. Art galleries and libraries, concerts, festivals, and other events could also be listed here.
