Places to go and things to do in Perth, Scotland are the chief topics of this portion of our web guide.

One of the more scenic cities in Scotland, Perth brings tourists in throughout the year, but residents aren't left with nothing to do, either.

Perth was the capital of the old Kingdom of Scotland, and it remains an important cultural centre.

Perth has a temperate maritime climate, so there aren't a lot of extremes during any season. It should be no surprise that summer is the best season to visit Perth, as the days are long and the temperatures are comfortable. Still, the off-seasons can offer different opportunities, as well as fewer crowds and better prices. You might prefer the warmer climates and crowds that will be seen during the summer season, or you might be content with milder winters and a more solitary experience.

One of the winter attractions that Perth has to offer is the Perth Winter Festival, which takes place from November to January. Offering a range of events, including music concerts, theatre performances, and Scottish ceilidhs, which are social events that often involve dancing and Gaelic folk music, but may also include storytelling, poetry, music, and songs.

Perth is beautiful in the winter, with its snow-capped mountains and forests, and there are also opportunities for skiing, snowboarding, and other winter recreational opportunities. Although not in the city itself, the Cairngorm Mountain range is only a short drive away.

Winter is also a good time to visit the city's museums, historical sites, art galleries, and shoppes, as there will be shorter lines and fewer crowds, allowing visitors to more comfortably view the sites, exhibits, and collections. Prices tend to be better in the winter, as well.

Although rain is likely, spring is a great time to visit Perth. Compared to winter, the days are longer and the weather is milder. Perth's green spaces and cherry blossoms brighten the city.

The Scone Palace is particularly nice in the spring. Built of red sandstone, the Gothic Revival-style structure has a castellated roof, beautiful gardens, fir trees, and a star-shaped maze. Opening in April, the Scone Palace offers views of the River Tay.

More people come to Perth in the summer than in any other season, as the weather is perfect. Situated near the Scottish Highlands, Perth is also a good base for people interested in taking part in outdoor activities in the surrounding region.

However, summer is also the season for cultural events in Perth, as the city hosts several festivals and other events. Of course, Perth's historical and architectural landmarks are open in the summer. While the crowds might be a mild aversion to some, others enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of Perth in the summer.

Fall is also a good time to visit Perth. The summer crowds are beginning to disperse, but the temperatures are still mild, neither too hot nor too cold, and there are still plenty of things to do in and around the city.

Each September, the Perth Food and Drink Festival provides an opportunity to sample the best of Scottish food and drink, including Scottish whisky, gin, and locally produced beer. The Perth and Kinross Traditional Music Festival takes place in November.

Appropriate resources for this category include Perth museums and historical places, art galleries, and other attractions, as well as entertainment venues, concerts, festivals, and other events. Sports and recreational programmes and venues, sports teams, leagues, and facilities in Perth may be found here, as well.
