Faith and spirituality in Cwmbrân blend older Christian traditions with newer evangelical, charismatic, and alternative spiritual movements.

Cwmbrân, founded in 1949 as one of Wales' post-war "new towns," does not have the medieval ecclesiastical heritage of older Welsh communities. Yet, some of the villages incorporated into the town are older communities, and Cwmbrân has developed a vibrant and diverse spiritual life, reflecting both the traditional Christian denominations rooted in Welsh culture and newer expressions of faith that emerged in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Today, Cwmbrân's spiritual identity is shaped by Anglican and Catholic parishes, evangelical and charismatic churches, independent congregations, and alternative spiritual centres.

The Church in Wales remains one of the most visible Christian traditions in the town. Anglican parishes in Cwmbrân often serve as community hubs, offering worship, pastoral care, and social outreach. Notable Anglican churches include Holy Trinity Church (Llantarnam), a historic parish with strong community engagement; St. Gabriel's Church, an active parish for family-oriented ministry; and St. Peter's Church (Hinllys), serving the southern edge of Cwmbrân. These churches reflect the Anglican tradition's emphasis on liturgy, sacrament, and community presence.

Cwmbrân's Catholic community is centred around the Church of Our Lady of the Angels, a well-established parish offering Mass, catechesis, and community events. The Roman Catholic presence in the town reflects the broader resurgence of Catholicism in parts of South Wales during the 19th and 20th centuries.

Wales has a strong history of Nonconformism, largely in its Baptist, Methodist, and independent evangelical congregations. In Cwmbrân, this tradition continues through Cwmbrân Gospel Hall, representing the Brethren tradition with a focus on scripture and lay-led worship, and through TLC Community Church, a small but active evangelical fellowship in Two Locks. These congregations emphasize Bible teaching, personal faith, and community outreach.

Cwmbrân is also known for its charismatic Christian presence, most notably Victory Church Cwmbran, a large, contemporary church known for energetic worship, community programmes, and a strong emphasis on personal transformation. Such churches often attract younger families and those seeking a more modern worship style.

Beyond Christianity, Cwmbrân also hosts the Cwmbran Spiritual Centre, offering spiritualist meetings, healing services, and workshops. This reflects a broader trend across Wales and the United Kingdom toward exploring non-traditional spiritual paths.

From Anglican parishes to charismatic megachurches and spiritualist gatherings, the town offers a range of spiritual expressions. Many churches run food banks, youth programmes, support groups, and charity events, activities that often serve people beyond their congregations.
