Pontypridd's religious life is shaped by a long Christian heritage, a diverse mix of denominations, and several historically significant churches that continue to anchor community life within the town.

Pontypridd developed rapidly in the 19th century as coal, iron, and railways transformed the Taff Valley. With this growth came a dense network of chapels and churches, especially Nonconformist congregations (Baptist, Methodist, and Congregational), typical of the South Wales valleys. These chapels served not only as places of worship, but also as centres of education, political organisation, and cultural life, especially during the Welsh-language revival movements.

By the 20th century, Anglican and Roman Catholic congregations also grew, particularly in Treforest and the town centre. Today, Pontypridd retains a plural religious landscape, with active Anglican, Catholic, Baptist, United Reformed, and independent evangelical churches, as well as newer community-focused ministries.

St. Catherine's is one of Pontypridd's most recognisable churches and a key part of the Pontypridd Ministry Area. It is a prominent Anglican parish church with a strong community presence and a highly rated reputation. Its central location and historic architecture make it a focal point for civic services, concerts, and outreach programmes.

A long-standing Baptist congregation, Temple Baptist reflects the Nonconformist heritage of the Valleys. It remains active today with a strong community identity. Its position near the town centre places it within the historic cluster of chapels that once defined Pontypridd's religious life.

Located near the University of South Wales, St. David's Uniting is a United Reformed/Presbyterian tradition congregation known for its inclusive ethos and community engagement. The church continues the tradition of broad-minded Nonconformist ministry that has long been part of the town's identity.

St. Dyfrig's is the principal Roman Catholic parish in the Pontypridd area, serving both long-established families and the student population. The parish is named for Dyfrig (Dubricius), an early Welsh saint associated with the Christianisation of South Wales.

Though slightly outside of the town centre, St. Illtud's is historically significant, named for Illtud, one of Wales' foundational saints. The church serves the wider Pontypridd area.

Pontypridd also hosts several modern evangelical and community-oriented ministries, including Citizen Church (Anglican), Coedpenmaen Community Church, and Jesus Alive Church.

These and other churches and places of worship in Pontypridd, Wales, are the focus of this portion of our web guide, regardless of the religion, denomination, or sect.
