The Alabama city of Enterprise is located in both Dale and Coffee counties. It was founded by John Henry Carmichael, who opened a general store there. It was incorporated in 1896, and flourished when the Alabama Midland Railway came through town. It is famous for its Boll Weevil Monument, erected in the town square after the weevils laid waste to the cotton crops, which began great diversity in crops, including peanuts.
