Located in Jefferson County, Alabama, the city of Fairfield was founded in 1910 at a ceremony which was addressed by President Theodore Roosevelt. It was designed as a model city by the Tennessee Coal, Iron and Railroad Company to house its workers and was originally called Corey, in honor of a US Steel Corporation executive, but was later changed to match the name of that executive's town of residence, Fairfield, Connecticut.
