Glendale, Arizona, is a city in Maricopa County and in less than ten miles from downtown Phoenix. It first saw life when three builders and 225 mules led the Arizona Canal Company project to bring water to the desert. The canal was completed in May of 1885. It was shortly thereafter that settlers began to homestead there.
