Artesia, California, is located in Los Angeles County and was incorporated in 1959. It was named in honor of the numerous Artesian wells in the vicinity. It was one of the most significant dairy districts in Southern California during the 1920s and 1930s, having been developed by Portuguese and Dutch dairy farmers.
