Imperial County, California, is home to Calexico, which is near the Arizona-California border as well as on the international border between California and Mexico. Its name is a combination of the words California and Mexico, as is its neighbor, Mexicali, across the border in Mexico. It was founded in 1899 and incorporated in 1908.
