The California city of Emeryville in Alameda County was incorporated in 1896 and named after Joseph Stickney Emery, who owned large tracts of land in the area during the Gold Rush. The Santa Fe Railway built a passenger depot and rail yard in 1902, and though it was called "Oakland," it was physically in Emeryville proper. It is, today, called the Emeryville station.
