Eureka is the county seat in Humboldt County, California and sits adjacent to Humboldt Bay. It was founded in 1850 and incorporated in 1856 as a town, and incorporated as a city in 1874. It was named for the is Greek word meaning "I have found it!" The state motto is also Eureka.
