Fort Bragg, located in coastal Mendocino County, along State Route 1, is a popular tourist destination due to its views of the Pacific Ocean and the California coastline. The city shares its name with Fort Bragg, North Carolina, both of which were named for Captain Braxton Bragg, a veteran of the Mexican-American War who later became a general in the Confederate Army.
