The northern California city of Fremont is in Alameda County. It was incorporated in 1956 after of the communities of Centerville, Irvington, Mission San Jose, Niles, and Warm Springs. The city was named after John Frémont, the 3rd military governor of California and American explorer who was the first presidential candidate of the Republican Party.
